چکیده مقاله:

Abstract Background: Urban air pollution represents a challenge in Tehran. Health care organs and physicians pay much attention because of health effect on mankind. Nowadays, a majority of air pollution related articles focus on particulate matter adverse effects on human health. Epidemiologic studies show the direct correlation between ambient particulate matter and risk of respiratory system and cardiovascular disease. However, little attention has been given to the effects of air pollution on the gastrointestinal system. Emergency system visit increases on polluted days. Recent studies have shown high incidence of susceptibility to inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), appendicitis, and colorectal cancer in the polluted ar eas. Materials and Methods: We investigated the effect of Particulate matter in two aerodynamic diameters (PM2.5 and PM10) on peritoneal immune system cells. PM filters of different stations were purchased from Tehran Air Quality Standard Agency. After harvesting the particles from corresponding filters, the PMs were cultured with C57BL/6 inbred mice peritoneal macrophages. MTT test was performed to define the stimulatory and toxic effects of PMs on macrophages. Results: The results of MTT test showed stimulation of macrophages by PMs. PM2.5 was more potent in increasing MTT test absorbance. Also, both particles stimulated macrophages in 10μg/ml concentration in comparison to 5 μg/ml concentration. Conclusion: These results show particles stimulate macrophages and this stimulation can result in production of inflammatory cytokines and other macrophage function. In further studies, we will continue our investigation by evaluating PM effects on pr oducing cytokines and gene expression. Keywords: Immune system; Macrophage; Peritoneal; Suspended particles of air pollution

Effects of Fine Particulate Matter (PM2.5) on Systemic Oxidative Stress and Cardiac Function in ApoE−/− Mice

AIM In this study, we aimed to explore the toxic mechanisms of cardiovascular injuries induced by ambient fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in atherosclerotic-susceptible ApoE(-/-) mice. An acute toxicological animal experiment was designed with PM2.5 exposure once a day, every other day, for three days. METHODS ApoE(-/-) and C57BL/6 mice were randomly categorized into four groups, respectively...

Effects of T-2 Toxin on Cytokine Produc-tion by Mice Peritoneal Macrophages and Lymph Node T-Cells

Background: T-2 toxin is a mycotoxin of type A trichothecenes produced by several fungal genera such as Fusarium species. Mycotoxins can affect both cell mediated and humoral immune compartments. Objective: The purpose of this study was to investi-gate the effect of T-2 toxin on cytokine production by mouse peritoneal macrophages and lymph node T cells. Methods: Mouse peritoneal macrophages and...

The effects of Eucheuma cottonii on alveolar macrophages and malondialdehyde levels in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid in chronically particulate matter 10 coal dust-exposed rats

Objective(s):To investigate the effect of Eucheuma cottonii on alveolar macrophages (AM) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in bronchoalveolar lavage fluids (BALF) in particulate matter 10 (PM10) coal dust-exposed rats. Materials and Methods: Ten groups, including a non exposed group and groups exposed to coal dust at doses of 6.25 (CD6.25), 12.5 (CD12.5), or 25 mg/m3 (CD25) an hour daily for 6 ...

In vitro anti-inflammatory effects of citrulline on peritoneal macrophages in Zucker diabetic fatty rats.

In type 2 diabetes (T2D) macrophage dysfunction increases susceptibility to infection and mortality. This may result from the associated decreased plasma concentration of arginine, an amino acid that plays an important role in immunity. In vitro, increasing arginine availability leads to an improvement in macrophage function; however, arginine supplementation in diabetic obese patients may be d...

Effects of anaesthesia on fluid and solute transport in a C57BL6 mouse model of peritoneal dialysis.

BACKGROUND Genetically modified mice show promise as animal models for studying the physiology and pathophysiology of the peritoneum during peritoneal dialysis (PD). Methods for evaluation of the functional characteristics of the mouse peritoneum have not been studied extensively, and the effects of anaesthesia on fluid and solute transport in mouse models of PD are unknown. METHODS A single ...

Effect of Ganoderma Lucidum on Cytokine Release by Peritoneal Macrophages

Background: The water-soluble extract of Ganoderma lucidum (Reishi) has been used as an immunomodulator to stimulate spleen cells proliferation and cytokine expression. Objective: To investigate the effect of Ganoderma lucidum (G. lucidum) on cytokine production by mice peritoneal macrophages. Methods: Mice peritoneal macrophages were prepared by intra-peritoneal injection of 5 ml cold PBS. Per...
